When I was a young boy in the late 1960s and interested in space travel, my Mother took me on a memorable visit to the London Planetarium to marvel at the night sky. It was at about the same time that she took me to see the movie, 2001 A Space Odyssey, which remains a firm favourite to this day.
I was therefore excited to read the latest news from The Shanghaiist about the construction of the world’s largest planetarium in the Lingang area of Pudong, which is set to open next year. At a cost of 528 million yuan (US$82 million), it sounds like a “must see” for me on my next visit to Shanghai, which will hopefully be some time next year (fingers crossed!)
If the interior is anything like as futuristic and innovative as the external design (see photo below), it’s going to be hard to resist!’
